Coaches don't scroll through thousands of athletes hoping to stumble onto you. They filter: sport, position, grad year, state, measurables. Every empty field on your profile is a search you just disappeared from. Here are the five mistakes we see most.
One: no position listed. "Football" isn't a position. A coach recruiting cornerbacks filters for cornerbacks — if your position field is blank, you don't exist in that search. List every position you legitimately play.
Two: no graduation year. Recruiting runs on class cycles. A coach building their 2027 board filters by 2027. Missing grad year means missing from every class-based search — it's the single most important field on your profile.
Three: stale stats. If your profile still shows sophomore numbers in your junior spring, a coach assumes either you stopped improving or you stopped caring. Update after every season, minimum. On F1G, your Profile Strength meter on the dashboard tells you exactly what's missing.
Four: no film. We've said it before: a profile without film is a rumor. Even three minutes of raw game footage beats nothing. Athletes with film on F1G get a visible Film badge in browse results — coaches click those first.
Five: an unclaimed username. Your username is your shareable link — the thing you put in an Instagram bio, an email signature, a tournament program. No username, no link, no traffic. Claim it in two minutes under Edit Profile, then put it everywhere a coach might look.
